KIRA A LIGATO

An associate with McKenry, Dancigers, Dawson & Lake, Kira A. Ligato joined the firm in 2009.  She is a 2002 graduate of Loyola University School of Law, New Orleans.  Ms. Ligato was a student practitioner with the Loyola Law Clinic and recipient of the Student Bar Association President’s Award. 

Ms. Ligato’s primary practice consists of representing corporate and insurance clients in the defense of civil actions in areas of insurance coverage, asbestos, negligence, workers’ compensation, products liability, and premise liability.  Through her diverse practice, Ms. Ligato has gained knowledge invaluable to the defense of her corporate and insurance clients.

Ms. Ligato’s diverse defense practice has brought her before general district and circuit courts throughout Virginia.  Ms. Ligato also has significant appellate experience before both the Virginia Court of Appeals and Supreme Court of Virginia.

As a civil litigator representing clients from all over the United States, Ms. Ligato has appeared before federal courts in the Eastern District of Virginia, the MDL in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the Middle District of Florida.  Her appellate practice has also brought her before the Fourth Circuit, Court of Appeals.

Prior to coming to MDDL, Ms. Ligato’s practice focused primarily on asbestos ligation and workers’ compensation.  Having represented claimants in workers’ compensation, Ms. Ligato now provides an insightful defense for all her clients.  Ms. Ligato has co-authored and lectured at several seminars for attorneys, insurance companies, and corporate clients regarding defending workers’ compensation claims.

When she is not practicing law, Ms. Ligato enjoys living close to the beach and spending time with friends and family.  She is Vice-President of Programming for the Delta Gamma Tidewater Alumnae Chapter and President of the Delta Rho House Corporation for the Delta Gamma Fraternity Housing Corporation.

Kira A. Ligato is admitted to practice in Virginia, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.  She is a member of the Virginia Beach Bar Association, Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, and Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys.
